I discovered this artist when a friend gifted me with a copy of a book of short stories, several of which were his, and which used Cyril Power's striking linocut as its cover art. What an amazing discovery of a hitherto unknown-to-me artistic genius! This wonderful book, which reproduces all of Power's' 46 linocuts in color, as well as a number of public posters he designed with life partner Sybil Andrews, will be of enormous interest to anyone fascinated by this early 20th century period of artwork. The works are prefaced with the life story of Power, whose somewhat Gauguin-like life is well told by author Philip Vann. I also learned about this "school" of art, known as the Grosvenor School, and how closely associated it was with German Expressionism, Italian Futurism, and the Vorticists (another fascinating new experience).
Very comprehensive, but reproductions blurry. Not sharp.
