Excellent book, mostly text, no color pictures. I found this book to be informative and useful. It is a classic book on spinning which deserves to be reprinted. It is a vintage book,originally written in the 60's and reprinted in the 70s. The information is written for people who know how to read a technique and figure out how to use it without lavish color pictures, and easy color step by step illustrations.There are line drawings which are useful. I figured out several techniques I had been struggling with using other fancier books.If you want a fancy coffee table book with all the information presented in easy to follow pictures, and very little reading this is not the book for you.I consider it to one of the best books on spinning in my collection. It is often cited in other spinning books. I got it from the Library, liked the book and ordered it.
This was purchased as a collectable. I'm a spinner and I was happy to find this Author and very pleased with the contents. After reading this book I wonder why I've spent so much on other books. It has it all in here.
This book has great information on skirting and on the fleese. Good pictures too. It is worth the wait to find a copy!

My version is from 1964 the copyright is form 1953.There are 96 diagrams and 5 plates. The diagrams are hand drawn black lines. The diagrams are clear and distinctive. Many are so unique that I doubt you will find this information in any other book.To best describe this book would take a review the size of the book.We take wool from the sheep to the last spin. Many of the tools and techniques are described in detail. There are chapters on other materials such as flax.Everyone will have a most useful chapter. Mine is chapter three "Sorting the Fleece." It shows a diagram of the different parts of the fleece and the best use. A close second is chapter 8 on flax as it is not easy to get a comprehensive grasp of flax.No matter how comprehensive your library is there is an empty place on the shelf waiting for this book.From Wool to Waulking
