I get it, a text book.after the famous discovery of the murals of San Bartolo, Director of the Popol Vuh museum and the title caught my eye as well as my interest. My issue is that the Aztec and other civilizations in Mexico were discussed more than the Maya. Secondly, very confusing. Is the Popol Vuh regional? Did it effect the lowlands,Every time I was about convinced he would completely flip his train of thought. Mark Zender and Andrea Stone's Reading Maya Art effectively took the reader through identifying glyphs, but more important delve into context, including the Popol Vuh. Lastly, poorly illustrated. For the cost of the book, I expected SOOOOO much more.
A superb, scholarly synthesis of Maya myth and a persuasive argument as to how it should be, might be, interpreted. The author is one of our foremost scholars of the ancient Maya.
